Preparing for a Return of Business Travel to the EU
This supporting document provides an overview into the Posted Worker Directive/A1 certifications to help members understand what has changed and the impact on short term business travel to and within the EU.
At a Buyer event in 2021, ITM Buyers members shared concerns regarding significant changes for travellers returning to the EU for business travel, these included changes in legislation and increased enforcement of certain paperwork requirements since business travel was last at volume in 2019. ITM set up a working group to support the Buyer community with the aim to provide guidance on what to be aware of, who to engage with and how to best prepare their travellers for a return to business travel to and within the EU. Following a series of successful webinars, the taskforce launched a new resource which includes:
- An update on amendments to the Posted Workers Directive which impacts some short term business trips and increased enforcement for business travellers to prove where they pay social security contributions
- A1 certificates/forms and clarity around what they were and why or when they would be required
- Brexit considerations
- Taking the conversation forward, who within an organisation is responsible for ensuring travellers hold the correct paperwork
- Recommended steps
